Fortunately I have another HD to put all my stuff before formatting it. I will report the result back. I was going to use PM, but found that PM doesn't support Vista, so I bought Acronis Disk Director for the job. I can't even ctrl-alt-del to reboot and had to do a hard reset I do have most of my data backed up, but not the latest and, at present, the most I clicked yes, then another box said "success".

What is partition magic? I also tried running PtEdit, but it seems to hang the computer. That was probably a bad move, since the error occurred right after.

The "Rescue Diskettes" just allow one to run PM from DOS and have a more limited range of actions than when run from Windows. In the c drive box it had BAD written inside it. Unfortunately, the Acer is my only computer at the moment. Are you only seeing the error message when using Partition Magic and not any other partitioning programs? I do have a MBRWORK backup of the MBR (but it may have been from a time before I changed the size of one or more partitions).

What does this mean? Solutions Are Here! I would recommend using another hard drive to try this on before reformating the original drive that has all your apps and data files. There is a downloadable (via Microsoft) repair ISO for Win7.
