Turn off power and then back on again. It kicked out one sheet of paper with a small newspaper clipping that somehow found it's way into the paper feed path. This was a quick fix, but undoubtedly would have cost us big $$$$ or a new printer. Gave the white thing a little nudge, it moved, turned it back on and alls ok again!

Ink is water based so a damp rag is all you need to clean. I had just read a review on cnet for a canon with lots of user comments saying they had this problem (or similar) and had to throw it away.
