Another option is to copy off all your code from Global.asax.cs and then delete and create another Global.asax file (and then copy the code back into Global.asax.cs). I checked out a different branch from source control containing the same project. Just after making it writable,everything working fine. Not the answer you're looking for? rebuild the project.
